For the director: a maskil of the sons of Korah.1As a deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.2As a doe longs for channels of water, so my soul longs for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and see the face of God?3My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and see the face of God?4These things I remember, and I pour out my soul over me, when I pass through the throng of Adam to the temple of God with the voice of shouting and thanksgiving, a multitude keeping festival.5Why are you downcast, my soul, and why do you moan over me? Hope in God, for still I will praise him, the salvations of his face.6O my God, my soul sinks down within me and roars; hope in God, for still I will praise him, the salvations of his face.7Abyss calls to abyss at the voice of your channels; all your breakers and your waves have passed over me.8By day the LORD commands his steadfast love, and by night his song is with me—a prayer to the God of my life.9I will say to God my rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go about darkened in the pressure of the enemy?"10With murder in my bones, my enemies taunt me, saying to me all day long, "Where is your Rock? Why have you forgotten me? Why do I walk in darkness in the pressure of the enemy?"11Why are you downcast, my soul, and why do you moan over me? Hope in God, for still I will praise him, the salvation of my face, my God.

Chapter 43
1Judge me, O God, and plead my case against a nation that is not loyal, against a man of deceit and injustice. Deliver me.2For you, God, my stronghold, why have you forsaken me? Why do you make me walk darkly in the pressure of the enemy?3Send forth your light and your truth; they will guide me. They will bring me to your holy mountain Zion and to your tabernacles.4Then I will come to the altar of God, to God, my exceeding joy, and I will give you thanks with the harp, O God, my God.5Why are you downcast, my soul, and why do you roar over me? Hope in God, for still I will praise him, the salvation of my face, my God.
